Riglol

Owners of the popular Rigol DS1054z oscilloscope (and other 1000z, 2000, 4000, and certain 800-series scopes) can use the following tool to "hack" their scope and enable all the untapped "hidden" features of more expensive models. On the Rigol 1054z scope in particular, the hack unlocks RS232, I2C, SPI decoders; it doubles the memory for reviewing captures, it gives several new trigger options, and increases the bandwidth from 50MHz to 100MHz.

Obtaining your hacked key

For the DS1054z series, do the following:
  • Turn on the scope.
  • On the scope, press the Utility button.
  • On the right side of the screen, press the System option.
  • Then press the System Info option.
  • Write down the Serial Number.
  • Enter the Serial Number in the box above.
  • Select the option(s) you want to enable [e.g. DSFR enables all features]. Type the code in the Options box.
  • Click the Generate button.
  • A pop-up window will display your 28 character key. (Four groups of 7) Write this key down!

    Entering the key

    For the DS1054z, do the following:
  • On the scope, press the Utility button.
  • On the right side of the screen, press the Options option. (You may need to scroll down one click.)
  • Then press the Setup option.
  • Press the Editor option.
  • A window will appear in the center of the screen. Use the Intensity knob to select a letter. Press the Intensity knob to enter the letter.
        If you make a mistake, press the Backspace option.
  • When you have entered all 28 characters, press the Apply option on the right.

    Checking features

    To see what features have been enabled, do the following:
  • On the scope, press the Utility button.
  • On the right side of the screen, press the Options option. (You may need to scroll down one click.)
  • Press the Installed option.
  • A window will appear in the center of the screen listing all of the features that have been enabled along with their version (Official or Temporary)
